Gangadhar Maithani Government Degree College is established in 07/2007 and named after a member of legislative (MLA) Assembly in 1960 in the present state Uttar Pradesh. Vidyapeeth, a place of knowledge, 04 kms from Guptkashi town on the bank of holy river Mandakini, on the way to famous shrine Shidhpeeth Kalimath. The place Vidyapeeth as the name is, a hub of three higher education institutes namely- Sanskrit College, Pharmacy College, and Government Degree College Guptkashi.
Initially college started with two courses namely-BCom and BCA in the beginning and got started in Nov 2008 with an intake of 05 students in BCA first year. MLA Kedarnath sanctioned a three class rooms building in 2008 for the college. College got started in a left premises of GIC Guptkashi and later the land was transferred to GDC Guptkashi. In 2014 the Govt. of Uttarakhand sanctioned BA courses in 6 subjects viz Hindi, English, Political Science, Sociology, Sanskrit and Economics. After a panel inspection by the team of SDSUV, the BA classes and a tin shade building containing three class rooms sanctioned by Honourable member of parliament (MP), Garhwal Maj. Gen (Rtd) Sh. Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri was constructed and taken over by college administration.
The BA course started in 07/2015 with a strength of 101 students mostly girls of rural, economically backward background. In 2015, RUSA an autonomous body sanctioned 200 lacs (70 lacs for construction, 70 lacs for renovation and 260 lacs for new facilities) and a four and two class building with a principal room and separate toilets for boys and girls.
In 2020 State government sanctioned 341 lacs for main building (Administrative Block and class rooms) and we have been able to construct the building with a seminar hall of 120 students’ capacity and a library block, 03 smart class rooms and 07 other teaching rooms including administrative block.
In 2021, RUSA sanctioned 55 lacs to construct our more class room on top of 1st floor existing RUSA building. In the session 2021-2022 the total student’s strength has reached on a Hight of 314 admissions in BCA (03 students), BCom (15 students) and BA (296 students).
At present 04 regular assistant professor (BCA, BCom, English, Sanskrit) and 04 Samvida assistant professor (Hindi, Economics, Pol.Science, Sociology) are working and a junior clerk and 06 fourth class employee from outsource are working in a guidance of our principal sir “Dr. Jangwan”.
